Teachers Kelly Arsenault and Mickey Fortanasce (USA)

Kelly Arsenault und Mickey Fortanasce

As a professional Tough Guy, Super Hero and Spelling Bee Champion, finding time for dance was not easy for Mickey, nor was it an accepted activity among his fellow Crime fighters. But having defeated most evil doers in the New York City metropolitan area and becoming bored with their monotonous monologueing coupled with their stubborn refusal to except his superior skill and ability, he made his way down a different path. In search of more powerful adversary Mickey began dancing the Lindy Hop and the Balboa in the Summer of ’99.
As a connoisseur of the real spirit, Kelly was much faster in descovering the essentials and so dancing has belonged to her life since very young. She has studied ballet, jazz and modern dance and has been part of numerous dance companies.
Together they are unbeatable, a fact which is not only shown when they enter the big competitions or when they set one of their incredible shows on their feet. Their creativity and innovation coupled with both their love of dance history and theory have led them to become popular teachers.

Mia Goldsmith and Todd Yannacone (USA)

Mia Goldsmith und Todd Yannacone

Being one of the favorites for the old timers to dance with, Mia focuses on authentic technique, which allow her to adapt and bring her well known improvisation and style to the dance floor. She is known for her highly impressive footwork, improvisation, an individual approach to the dance, and also for a very nice secret smile.
Todd too has worked with dance and music legends alike. He specializes in musicality and connection, which is apparent every time he steps on the dance floor. He teaches vernacular jazz, balboa, lindy hop, and other vintage swing dances both locally and internationally, and loves spreading his passion for social dancing. He is happy to be able to explore different corners of the globe on a regular basis and do what he loves most in the world.
Both, Mia and Todd, have won countless championship titles from the most prestigious competitions. One can see why and for that they are coming to Schaffhausen.

Sasha Grubiyanova and Ivan Ivanin (RUS)

Sasha Grubiyanova und Ivan IvaninThe Russian balboa dancers Sasha and Ivan were hooked by balboa in 2004 and have not ceased to indulge that passion since. They took their inspiration from the original videoclips of Balboa and L.A. Swing dancers, trying to catch that amazing feeling of joy they had in the late 30s and early 40s. And one has to admit that what Sasha and Ivan took from it is flattering the eye. They combine the elegance and the intimacy of Purebal with the Jitterbug feeling of Balswing, which makes their dance stylish and highly energetic at the same time. This certainly couldn’t be hidden for a long time and so they were not only successfully participating in competitions, but became nationally and internationally known teachers.

Levels Beginners-Intermediate:
You have been social dancing all of the key Balboa steps (Throw out, Come around, Lollie Kicks, Paddles, Crossovers) and you know the basic technique of the Balboa, however, you want to be further introduced to the secrets of the dance.

  Intermediate-Advanced:
You are dancing Balboa on a regular basis since about 1–2 years. So you are not only familiar with the basic steps of the Balboa, but you know a variety of further Bal-Swing-steps and are able to use a set of variations. The art of leading and following is no mystery to you, but you are still looking for more technique and more ease, as well as more “challenging” variations and steps.

  Advanced:
You attend weekly classes since at least two years and/or have been visiting international workshops, which brought you into the realm of the advanced Balboa dancer. This level is thought for dancers who know and master all subtelties of the steps and who fear no variation, slide or tempo. You are able to interpret the music, but you want to gain in musicality and finess as well as discover new styles. Leading or Following is not only no mystery for you but your second skin. You don’t miss many Balboa parties and enter the dancefloor happily when all the others leave it because of the high tempo.
